download the song Badí': The new creation

The beginning of his long-awaited life opened a new chapter in the integral and harmonic unity between Science and Religion, between Spirituality and Reason. From the moment of his birth there was clear proof of the presence of an invisible world and a challenge to overcome the impossible.

Badí', just three days after being born, underwent an operation on his pulmonary artery Badí'with a 10% chance of recovery. Badí' recovered happy and defiant as if by a miracle, preparing to face another operation nine months later. Again, his small body battled with the first malpractice, in which hopelessness took hold of the doctors while we continued placing our confidence in the All-Mighty with the hope that He would illumine the minds of the entire medical team. There was an awakening that had such force and energy that it carried him until he was seven years old. Badí', intelligent, generous, joyous, kind, creative, who despite his limitations was always ready to enjoy a "normal" childhood, without restrictions.

Badí' with his parents The time for a third surgical operation arrived, this time at the best hospital in the world and with a 99% chance of success. On 5 September 2000, Badí', with great enthusiasm, said good-bye before his operation with the longing to return with more energy than ever, free from the pains that he had been enduring. Letters from his classmates expressed to him with affection their desire to see him again soon. Family members and friends of the Bahá'í Community all over the world supplicated to the King of Glory for the success of the operation.

Badí' with his brother After eight hours of surgical intervention the head doctor conveyed to us that during the operation an unexpected haemorrhaging of the aorta took place which caused generalized cerebral hypoxia. This meant a vegetative state for Badí'. At that moment our minds and hearts were darkened because we could not understand what had happened. When the doctors learned about our stance regarding life after death they felt at liberty to admit to us what really happened in the operating room without any fear whatsoever of legal charges. We requested a meeting with all of the operating doctors that worked on Badí's case, who revealed to us the three steps that they had failed to take. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging had not been carried out on Badí', significant studies which would have avoided their unexpected discovery, when they opened Badí's body, that his thorax and heart were joined. Nor were they prepared for the brain damage that was to occur as a result of not having placed his body below freezing.

A continuous smile Our stance in the face of these dramatic facts was one of acceptance. An enormous force had taken hold of us. We were faced with an impossible challenge for the world of science. A shower of prayers from our beloved Universal House of Justice and various National and Local Spiritual Assemblies, letters, poems, dreams and correspondence from a wide range of friends shed their protection and support, they strengthened and accompanied us in our utopian longing for the world of science: that Badí' would return to life. We prepared to embark on the following lines of action for the achievement of this objective:
  • Return to Argentina.
  • Organize interreligious prayer meetings.
  • Continue talking, singing, telling stories at the bedside of Badi, who for us was just in a deep sleep.
Interestingly, despite the diagnosis of total impossibility for Badí', he opened his eyes upon hearing the prayers and the repetition of a cassette with the story "The Little Prince". Badí', which means "new creation", lived up to his name. After the third operation he went from the deep embryonic sleep to awakening each part of his brain and body, little by little, day by day. The first step was the recovery of the spiritual faculties: imagination, thought, understanding, memory and common sense. He is now in the stage of physical recovery. Badí' has recuperated his senses of hearing, smell and taste and he is in the process of recovering his sight, sense of touch and the movement of his body.

His first embrace The achievement of his physical and mental health is due to the continuous support and love offered over these years by his friends from school, teachers, the professionals that are working with us: neurologists, doctors, nurses, the phonetician, the kinesiologist, and all those who were present with their prayers and good omens to facilitate and alleviate our efforts.

We must point out that during these years the path of proclamation and teaching has been permanently open and this year Badí' himself, with his strong personality, will and devotion has been even able to get the medical team to recite along with him every day the following prayer by heart:
O God! O God! This is a broken-winged bird and his flight is very slow- assist him so that he may fly toward the apex of prosperity and salvation, wing his way with the utmost joy and happiness throughout the illimitable space, raise his melody in Thy Supreme Name in all the regions, exhilarate the ears with this call, and brighten the eyes by beholding the signs of guidance!

O Lord! I am single, alone and lowly. For me there is no support save Thee, no helper except Thee and no sustainer beside Thee. Confirm me in Thy service, assist me with the cohorts of Thy angels, make me victorious in the promotion of Thy Word and suffer me to speak out Thy wisdom amongst Thy creatures. Verily, Thou art the helper of the weak and the defender of the little ones, and verily Thou art the Powerful, the Mighty and the Unconstrained.
